Companies or individuals, desiring the use of Web pages without being connected to the Internet, now have a solution at their very fingertips.
Elo TouchSystems, Inc., the world leader in touch technology, announces its revolutionary TouchTools Web Enabler, which converts simple browsers into full-fledged, controlled kiosk applications. Designed by Rocky Mountain Multimedia, Inc. as an overlay interface to the existing Internet browser, the Web Enabler allows users to replace the browser function controls with easy-to-use, customizable control panels. Furthermore, when combined with an Elo TouchSystems touchscreen, users are able to “surf the Web” using their fingers to navigate, instead of clumsy pointing devices.
The Web Enabler product is a 32-bit, self-contained Windows 95/Windows NT application that runs “on top of” Netscape Navigator (version 2.0 or above) or Microsoft Internet Explorer (version 3.0 or above). According to Mike Lewis, product manager for the Web Enabler development group, “The true beauty of this new product is its ability to run as a stand-alone application or in conjunction with any other multimedia presentation, generated from authoring tools such as Director, Multimedia Toolbook, Authorware, and the like.”
With TouchTools Web Enabler, customers can use their already existing home page for remote kiosks or trade shows displays, eliminating the costly creation of additional marketing material. The kiosk, or a standard monitor with an Elo touchscreen, may be installed in any public place and designed to operate as if it were on-line with no modification to the application’s HTML. Additionally, sales professionals can demonstrate products and services using their own Web site, without having to understand all of the functions of a Web browser.
Web Enabler provides the ability to control what sites users can “surf” by the designation of valid URL’s. Additionally, the tool offers a host of customizable features, including: fully programmable browser buttons that can be designed in any fashion and located on any side of the screen; easy activation of buttons, using a pointing device or touch (when used with an Elo touchscreen); and pop-up customizable keyboards that also capture information via the pointing device or touch input.
The tool’s inherent versatility allows for use as a stand-alone Web site with information residing on a local hard disk, or operation in combination of local and remote access with dial-on-demand capability. Additional programs or video clips can be run when Web Enabler is idle. Extra benefits include: the ability to send/receive e-mail on screen; the printing of Web information; and extensive logging capability, allowing owners to view what features the users are accessing.
System requirements for Web Enabler are: a minimum of 16 MB of memory, Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0, Netscape Navigator 2.0+ or Internet Explorer 3.0+, and at least 10 MB of free disk space. A Pentium 100+ MHz processor is preferred. The system must be in 800x600 video mode resolution.
TouchTools Web Enabler is priced as low as $295.00. Volume discounts are available. Additional licenses may be purchased at a $75.00 per copy charge.
